9th Medinterna International Meeting “Pearls in connective autoimmune diseases”

Dear Colleagues,

Medinterna Association is organizing the 9th International Meeting on Autoimmune Diseases about “Pearls in Autoimmune Diseases” from 26th to 29th January 2011 at Ipanema Park Hotel, Porto.

The main goal of these meetings is to update the knowledge in the autoimmune diseases field and to create funds to promote and support post-graduate studies in Internal Medicine, mainly for complementary residents.

Autoimmune diseases’s striking profile challenge physicians diagnosis skills and therapeutic strategies. Internal Medicine is recognized as the speciality with more vocation for the approach of the multisystemic and multidisciplinary reach of these diseases, which many times force to immediate and difficult decisions. It’s an area within Internal Medicine which development is in continuous progress, with new results and multiple clinical assays, originating therapeutical advances and controversial positions mainly on the diagnostic and therapeutic approach of SLE, AFS, Behçet disease, pulmonary interstitium pathology, Sjögren syndrome, ANCA vasculitis, sclerodermia and in the ever controversial use of the biological therapeutic in autoimmunity. There will also be a focus on laboratory in autoimmunity, such as ANAs and ANCAs prescription and its clinical meaning. Very important news will be revealed, like the description of a new clinical syndrome and a new approach to the problem of the relationship between infection and autoimmunity.

Scientific program’s design counts on the discussion of several case reports from Spain and Portugal, round tables, lectures, debates, gathering experts from Belgium, Germany, Israel, Italy, Spain, Turkey, The Netherlands, United Kingdom and USA as well as portuguese experts. It will also count on a summary of the most relevant facts presented by an expert at the end of each part of the day.

We hope that the chosen subjects may interest to everyone and that they bring something useful and new for the clinical practise. All the internists, rheumatologists, clinical pathologists and immunologists, specially complementary interns, are welcome to participate in all the sessions.
